Task Manager is a useful tool for monitoring your Windows PC and finding out the usage of system processes.

You might have used Task Manager to disable startup apps that slow down PC boot time. Or restart processes like Windows Explorer if they are not working properly.

Now you can do everything easily and fast with the inbuilt search bar. Apart from this, you can also give the task manager a theme of your choice. Let’s find out how.

How to Filter Processes Using Task Manager Filters

Now you don’t need any third party app to install search bar in task manager.

By typing about your pc in the search bar and searching for your pc information, as you can see in the below screenshot, check what windows make your pc.

If your Windows OS build is 22621.1344 or higher, you will see a filter or search bar in Task Manager.

To open Task Manager, right-click on the Windows taskbar icon. From the menu, select Task Manager. Or use one of the many other ways to open Task Manager.

You’ll find the search filter at the top of the Task Manager in the center. This search bar will let you search for programs and filter processes using the binary or real process name, PID, process ID, or publisher name—the developer of the app or process.

Therefore, you can filter processes by searching for a specific program or app. Or maybe by just typing Microsoft in the app history all Microsoft apps are running in one search.

Of course, this will make things easier and faster by bringing up your search results right away—no more digging through processes to find the information you need. This can come in handy, especially if you’re a Windows power user who likes to find out what’s going on with your computer.

Check it out for yourself. As you type in the search bar, Task Manager will begin filtering through the processes and bring up results that match the keywords.

In addition, the Task Manager filters work on different pages—Processes, App History, Startup Apps, Details, and Services.

How to set Task Manager theme different from Windows theme

The February 2023 KB5022913 Windows Update also brought pleasant visual changes to the Task Manager.

If you have that update installed, you can set a light or dark mode and even choose a system theme if you want.

You can now choose a theme for Task Manager that is different from the Windows theme you have set. For example, you can have a light mode for your system and a dark mode in your task manager theme. Or you can also use Windows theme with light or dark mode.

With Task Manager open, click on the Settings button at the bottom of the left pane.

In the App theme section, choose the theme you prefer—Light, Dark, or use the system setting.

If you select Use system setting, you will see the current Windows theme and its colors in different areas of Task Manager. So you can have your favorite movie theme colors or cool shades of blue theme to highlight usage statistics–as you can see in the screenshot below.

And according to Microsoft, all dialogs except the Run New Task and Properties dialogs now support app-specific themes or Windows themes.

Task Manager also has many advanced and useful features. To access them, you can find out how to run Task Manager as an administrator.

Enjoy a better and more attractive task manager

The next time you access Task Manager, you’ll enjoy the ease and speed of use enabled by the search bar. Setting up a colorful theme that you love will make the experience even better.
